I got a DWI, now what?
In the State of NC, when you receive a DWI (driving while impaired), it is an automatic 30 day civil revocation of your driver license. There is a process of having your license reinstated and Mental Health Services is a part of the process. Click here to read about this process on the Department of Health and Human Services website.
The first step is an Assessment. The Assessment process includes a standardized test and then an approximately 90 minute face-to-face interview with a DWI Provider. The Assessment is priced at $100 by the State. This service is offered by Northeastern Professional Counseling and the $100 fee is due at the time of service.

How will I know what services I'll need?
The second step is determining what services you will be required to complete if convicted. There are a few factors that determine the services appropriate for you to have your license reinstated.
The first factor in determining services is your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC), number of prior DWI's and determined diagnosis. If at the time of your DWI, you blew a .14 or below, it was your first offense and the assessment determines you have NO substance abuse/dependence diagnosis, you may be referred to complete ADETS; Alcohol and Drug Education Traffic School.
If your BAC was .15 or above at the time of your DWI or it was your second (or more) offense, the state of North Carolina automatically requires that you attend Short or Long Term Group Treatment. Group Treatment is more intensive and therapeutic than ADETS. The Assessment will determine how many hours of Group Treatment you will be assigned.
DWI Services include, but are not limited to:
DWI Assessment (offered by NPC)
ADETS: 16-19 hour education class (offered by NPC)
Short Term Group: 20-39 hours (offered by NPC)
Longer Term Group: 40-89 hours (offered by NPC)
Intensive Outpatient (90+ hours)
NPC accepts cash, money orders and
most major credit cards.
